It's Almost 2009!
What's everyone's plans for New Years Eve?? Steve is the restaurant open? Btw - I need the address to the new beach house and post some pics, I'd love to see it. Logan's parents are watching Sofia and we are going to a club in downtown Sac....should be quite the capital party. Hopefully 2009 will usher in some good times, good fortune and good vibes. I am looking so forward to leaving 2008 behind. Anyway, I posted a pic of Sofia and Santa....why it posted way down the page, I'm not sure, but take a look at it, it's pretty cute. I am back to work on the 5th and I start my night class on the 19th (Chemistry on Tuesday's from 5-7 and Thursdays from 5-10). I figure if I just take one class a semester, I'll get there eventually. I wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year and a BIG Happy Birthday to Marco. Love you all!

Hola from the tropics. Today I had to log in some hours at the office in the AM. Seems like things are picking up a wee bit. There are some tourists in among the sea of nationals who have descended upon Samara for a bit of holiday sun and surf. The weather is phenomenal. Cool breezes blowing in the night and morning and heating up to 85 or so. Today, Afro is taking the whole gang to Playa Buena Vista for some surf fishing. He has been supplying us with lobster all week too. He gave us a beautiful handmade bowl of Guanacaste wood for Christmas.
Marco is lovin all his Christmas haul and enjoying all the holiday chaos. He is also sprouting some molars so he can be a bit grumpy at times. Angel is busy looking after a houseful of folks, the garden, the cooking and all the tasks that present living here on the edge of civilization, and being the official ranch quad mama. Keep it comin! Love, DAD

Steve - I love pics! Especially the look on Sofia's face on the first one and the one of you and Mei - you guys both look great! I'm posting a picture of myself at Logan's Christmas party (yes - that is Logan dressed as Santa...lol) from last night, I think I drank too much champagne 'cause my head hurts. :) Have a good weekend everyone....

Sofia and Santa

Sofia meet Santa last week and very excited, until she got up to see him, she did not want me to leave, or smile for the picture...but it turned out cute anyway. BTW - comments are enabled for each post (see Dad's post below for example) and in the upper right hand corner, you can choose to "follow" our blog and get email updates if a new blog is posted. :)
First Day Work: Wow!
Hey all - just thought I'd share some experience from this week, the most exciting being my new job. I am now the proud owner of the title "Lactation Consultant Assistant" for AmeriCorps (a division of Domestic PeaceCorp for the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento) - wow, that was a mouthful. My very first day we saw four moms in three hours and issued four breast pumps. One client of particular interest had just had all five of her children removed from the home by CPS (including her 17 day old daughter) and didn't know when they would be returned, but wanted to keep her milk supply up. Another Mom was in need of a breastpump because her son was born without the roof of his mouth intact and was on a special feeding device. The other Mom's new baby (youngest of six) was in the NICU pending the result of an abnormal kidney scan and needed to keep her milk supply up while her son recovered. It is going to be a very delicate balancing act to keep work and home separate. The adversity these women face is incredible, so just when I get upset about day, I think about the strength of these families, and I always end up feeling blessed. I also got my schedule today for my trainings and they include everything from peer breastfeeding counseling to leadership to cultural diversity courses to mandated child abuse reporting to community safety and disaster relief. WOW! It should be an exciting 11 months!
Village Idiot Here
OK...so I am a techno-idiot. i feel so old school. believe it or not, this is my first time to use a blog. let me know if it worked. I am in town working today and antsy to get back home and start the celebration. the country has shut down. we have michael and brandy and their 2 girls at the inn and we also just welcomed mike souza. full house. we also have 8 new arrivals - our fleet of chickens supplying all of our huevo needs in the cost free organic method. Marco digs the chickens. we had a ceremonial
"chicken training" of the house and the chicken coop Afro built.
There are some wonderful new plants blooming and growing about an inch a day. also Steve, the Cortez trees are in bloom now. i am excited about putting together a visual link for our conversations.
